It doesn’t matter how hard you try or how much effort you put into your career because at some point you may find that you are stuck at a dead-end. If this is the case with you, then you need to try and make an active change. If you do, then you will soon find that you are able to turn things around and that you are also able to be happier and healthier as a result. Want to find out more? Take a look below.
Identify the Issue
You cannot hope to solve a problem if you can’t put a name to it. Try and take the time to figure out what’s holding you back. You never know, it may be something simple. It may be that nobody is leaving within the company, and there aren’t any new positions being opened up. Either way, you may find that you need to quit so that you can advance. On the flip side, it may be that the problem doesn’t lie with your employer or your job. It may be that you are burnt out. If you assess the situation and you find that there are opportunities out there, but you can’t or just don’t want to take them, then this is a sign that your general enthusiasm may be waning.
Learning New Skills
There is a strong possibility that you are unable to move forward because you are just not qualified enough to get the job done. If this is the case, then you need to try and identify the skills gap that you have, so you can fill it and then add the skills you need. Working and learning are not discrete and separate worlds anymore. A lot of people who are successful take lifelong learning seriously and they also take strong ownership of it as well. Take a look at all of the LinkedIn profiles of the people who are currently working in the job that you want. What do they have, that you do not? If you can do this, then you can be sure to push things in a new and more positive direction. Want to learn a new skill? Why not check out STL?
Stretch Assignments
Do you want a free and easy way to try and upskill yourself without having to take a class? If this is the case, then why not volunteer for some kind of stretch assignment. This kind of assignment will require you to learn a lot of new skills while also helping you to do the work. It may be the path you need to take to get onto bigger and better things. Stretch assignments may include things such as delivering presentations or even launching initiatives. You may have to work on a task to solve a particular problem or you may want to try and learn how to implement software. Either way, if you challenge yourself to try and grow, then this will help you to develop the skills you need to truly move on.
Connect with your Network
Another thing that you need to do is try and connect with your network as much as possible. You need to make sure that you are doing what you can to team up with others so that you can learn how to push yourself. If you can connect with your network, then this may help you to be more alerted to any potential opportunities that may be coming up in the future as well, and this can only ever be a good thing. If you can keep a good solid network around you, then when you move jobs, you know that you will have some good people around you.
Keep a Good Work-life Balance
If you can keep a good work-life balance, then this will help you out more than you realise. The reason why you may not be happy in the job that you have now is because you may be burnt out. If this is the case, then you need to try and take active steps to work around this by implementing better strategies for the future. If you can do this, then you will soon find that it is easier than ever for you to not only be happier but also healthier for the future. You may find that your new career also gets you off to a better start, which will be a great change if you feel as though your job is a dead-end right now.
