Operating a business isn’t easy to say the least. After all, you have so many things to think about on a day to day basis and you also have to think about how you are going to evolve and adapt your business for the future as well.
One thing that a lot of businesses overlook is their level of energy efficiency. After all, you could be costing yourself hundreds every single year and you may even find that you are harming the environment as well. If you want to avoid all of this then there are a couple of things that you can do to try and help yourself.
Switch Off any Equipment
You need to turn off your equipment at the end of the day when you are not using it. You may think that you turn off your computers and even unplug your laptop chargers, and this is a great starting point, but at the end of the day it won’t help you out much with your energy bill.
You need to make sure that you unplug your microwaves, any printers, scanners and more. Screensavers are also to be avoided, as they really can cause you to use up way more energy than you’d like. It’s also important that you activate any sleep modes and even any energy saving features as well. Motion sensors are helpful when they are connected to your devices, and it can save you a lot of time and hassle.
Turn Down the Heat
If you have the heating turned on then you will probably do this to keep your team warm. What you probably aren’t taking into account is the heat from all of the devices that are being powered. This alone will mean that you can turn down your thermostat by a degree or two.
You can save up to 10% on your energy bills by doing this and you can also really help to keep your team cool as well. If the room gets too hot then avoid the temptation to open up the window as well, because instead you should turn the heating down. If you don’t do this then you may find that the energy you are using is going out the window. Literally! If you want to find out more about energy usage then check out House Method’s guide.
Employees
Another thing that you can do is let your team work from home on certain days. You need to consider the various reasons and benefits when you make this decision, but at the end of the day, it is a fantastic way for you to save money. After all, the fewer people you have on your premises, the more energy you can save and you can even use your technology to keep your team connected and productive as well.
It also helps to explain to your employees the importance of being energy efficient, so that they can make the required changes in order to really give you the best result out of your savings. You can even implement rewards for those who save the most money as well.
