Tips To Get Your Head Around SEO

Posted on September 4, 2019September 4, 2019 by ben

SEO (search engine optimization) for many of us can be a headache. However, it’s important to have at least a basic understanding of what it is, how it all works, and how a business can benefit from it. So, here are some tips to get your head around SEO.

What Is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization, and when it comes to your website, it’s important that you do all you can to help improve it. It all relates to how Google ranks your pages, and it’s often said that if you’re not ranking on the first couple of pages, then it’s a clear sign that you’re not doing it right.

The more you can improve the SEO part of your website and pages in general, the more traffic you’re going to end up generating as it goes higher up in the search engine ranking.

Anyone who has a business website might see the benefit of hiring a technical SEO company to focus on the, behind the scenes, as it were to boost your website’s profile and how much it agrees with Google’s idea of a perfect webpage.

How To Improve Your SEO

If you don’t want to hire a company to work on your SEO, then there are certainly a few things that you can do to help better your website’s presence online. Here are a few examples:

  • Condense and edit images – Whatever images that you have on your site, it’s definitely worth resizing them so that they’re small in file size, rather than decreasing the physical size of it. Editing your images this way can really help with your site to make it run faster.
  • Add ALT texts – ALT texts are used for those who visually impaired, and it can help them to understand what the image is that they are meant to be seeing. It essentially a description of the image so try to make every image as clear as possible, and this can all simply be done via the dashboard of whatever website provider you use.
  • Link internally – This is great advice if you have a blog on your website. Start internally linking with other webpages and don’t forget to link out externally too. When linking internally, link them to other relevant posts, and that will help keep your traffic engaged for longer, rather than switching off after reading just one post.
  • Guest post – Guest posting is a way of getting links to your webpages on an external source. The more you have, the higher your domain authority will go, and that can also have a dramatic impact on your Google rank.

SEO is one part of the online world that is forever changing, and it seems to be that even when you feel like you’ve gotten ahead, something changes. If you’re starting off with a small business, then there’s enough SEO you can do on your own. However, once you’ve developed further, it might be time to then think about getting some outside help.

About Us

My good friend Ben started this site many years ago.  Ben said this about himself, “am a follower of Christ, a rabid computer geek, small business owner, and breaker of things. He is married way above his station in life and has three wonderful children who have made driving him insane their mission in life.”

Well back in 2019, Ben suddenly passed away from cancer and he asked me to continue the site. I like Ben, am a follower, a computer geek, a small business owner, and the father of 5 great children.

I miss Ben everyday but run this site in his honor. Thanks for visiting and enjoy!
