As the mobile market continues to boom, social networking site Pinterest has launched mobile apps for its pinboard service. On Tuesday, the company said that it will be launching mobile apps for Android-based smartphones and for the Apple iPad. It is also releasing a redesigned app for the iPhone.
With this, Pinterest is hoping that it would increase its user base even further. It is the desire of Pinterest not only to reach out to its customers but also to generate revenues. The Android app is customized for both phones and tablets.
On the other hand, the redesigned app for iPhone will come with a 2-column layout to allow users to view more pins. Pinterest hopes to provide iPad owners the best experience with its new and redesigned apps.
With the iPad app, Pinterest brings in new user interface touches. While swiping on one side will generate a list of categories, the other direction will flip through the layers of the pins you have opened. The app comes with an embedded browser. Double click on a product and you will be directed to the brand’s site. There you will be able to see the other products that have been pinned by the company.
Since its launch last year, Pinterest had only been accessible via the Web and through its popular iPhone app. As the company continued to improve its features and expand languages, the clamor for an Android app remained.
According to a report by online traffic tracker Experian Hitwise, Pinterest is now the third most popular social network with 119 million visits next to the 7.5 billion and 250 million of Facebook and Twitter, respectively. According to research firm comScore, Pinterest attracted 23.3 million unique users in the United States.
The new apps can now be downloaded at Apps.Pinterest.com or from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
