What Happens When You Hurt A Customer?

Posted on August 16, 2018August 16, 2018 by ben

There are very few things business owners dread more than hurting one of their customers. With the way that word spreads amongst consumers, having someone get injured in your shop or by a product which you sell will be terrifying, and could have a serious impact on your company.

What exactly happens when someone gets hurt in a business, though? To answer this question for you, this post will be exploring the issues you’ll face both before and after the event, along with some work which can be done to soften the blow your venture feels as a result.

The Instant Backlash

When someone gets hurt in your business, there will always be some instant backlash which will have to be dealt with. While they are still in your store, for example, you won’t be able to do anymore sales, and will have to focus on making sure that they are alright. If any other customers see the event take place, they could start to develop bad feelings about your business.

Along with these issues, though, the biggest problem you will be collecting evidence. Your CCTV recordings will need to be saved, witnesses will have to be collected, and you may even need to call the police to let them collect their own version of events.

The Long-Term Impact

In reality, the short-term impact of something like this is fairly minor, and the real problems will begin shortly in the future. With the strict laws which are in place to protect consumers, it can be far too easy for people in this position to seek legal support. If your business goes to court over an issue like this, you could stand to lose a small fortune, with certain verdicts leaving you with big finds and compensation to pay. Of course, you will have the chance to fight for yourself at this stage, and this is where the evidence you collected at the start will come in handy.

Damage Control

Finally, as the last area to consider, it’s time to think about the damage control which can be done when an injury first takes place. You should always work hard to be compassionate in this situation, working hard to make sure that the victim is comfortable and not at risk of something serious happening.

Along with this, though, you can find attorneys that represent all types of personal injury cases across the web, and their skills could be exactly what you need to fight on the other side of a case like this. Of course, working to show that you’ve solved the issue will also help, even if this only requires a small change or two to your company.

Hopefully, this post will give you everything you need to fight against injury claims which come from your customers. It can be hard to cover all of this, especially when you’re still small, and a lot of companies don’t handle it correctly. It doesn’t have to be this way, though, as long as you’re willing to do your part.

About Us

My good friend Ben started this site many years ago.  Ben said this about himself, “am a follower of Christ, a rabid computer geek, small business owner, and breaker of things. He is married way above his station in life and has three wonderful children who have made driving him insane their mission in life.”

Well back in 2019, Ben suddenly passed away from cancer and he asked me to continue the site. I like Ben, am a follower, a computer geek, a small business owner, and the father of 5 great children.

I miss Ben everyday but run this site in his honor. Thanks for visiting and enjoy!
