Protecting Your Business: Cyber Security Tips

Posted on December 11, 2020December 11, 2020 by Larry

It’s far too easy to assume that because your business is small that you won’t fall foul to a cybersecurity attack. However, the fact is that is not the case – a lot of small businesses are victims of cybercrime. That’s why it’s so important that when it comes to your business you know how to take steps to put all of the right protect in place and prevent cybercriminals from being able to target your business.

Of course, what it’s important to be aware of when it comes to your business’s online security is that no protection is 100% hack-proof and that even with all of the right protection processes in place, your business can still be victimised. That being said, with the right protective elements in place, you can significantly reduce the risk of cybercriminals being able to effectively target your business.

Bearing that in mind, below is a guide to a few simple but highly effective tips for protecting your business from cybercrime. Read on for everything that you should know.

Install anti-virus and malware protection

When it comes to protecting your business from cybercriminals, one of the best protective steps you can take is to make sure that you have up to date anti-virus and malware protection in place at all times. It’s also vital to ensure that all updates are run as soon as possible after they launch, as often these updates are designed to offer additional protection or to patch a known security breach in the software. That’s why you should never hold off on making system updates, as by doing so you could impact your business’s security.

Be wary of phishing scams

It’s also important to understand just how dangerous phishing scams can be. Phishing scams can be extremely difficult to detect; an email that looks completely safe and authentic could actually be a phishing scam and knowing how to determine that can be exceedingly difficult. That’s why it’s so important to make sure that you have anti-phishing scam software in place – you can learn more about this software and its benefits by doing some research into how it works to prevent phishing scams from targeting you and your business.

Use strong passwords

When it comes to preventing your business from being targeted by cybercriminals, one of the most crucial steps that you can take is to implement strong and secure passwords. This means making sure that passwords are not easy to guess and are strong and secure. A strong password should be random and should include a mixture of lower and upper case letters, numbers, and at least one character, such as an ‘@’ symbol or a ‘*’ symbol. If you struggle to make secure passwords, you can always use an online password generator to help you to build stronger and more secure passwords.

There you have it, a few useful tips and ideas for how you can make protecting your business a little easier. Take note of the advice above and implement it when it comes to your business security.

About Us

My good friend Ben started this site many years ago.  Ben said this about himself, “am a follower of Christ, a rabid computer geek, small business owner, and breaker of things. He is married way above his station in life and has three wonderful children who have made driving him insane their mission in life.”

Well back in 2019, Ben suddenly passed away from cancer and he asked me to continue the site. I like Ben, am a follower, a computer geek, a small business owner, and the father of 5 great children.

I miss Ben everyday but run this site in his honor. Thanks for visiting and enjoy!
