Why Your Home May Be More Vulnerable Than You Think

Posted on December 19, 2018August 1, 2021 by ben

Many people believe that just because they lock their door, their home is then safe. But this is not the case as there are other points of entry that people can target. You need to be looking out for all the places that could potentially be seen as a way to get in, and there are probably more than you think there are.

It’s okay if you don’t know what these are yet because we are going to be talking about some of them in this article. So, let’s take a look at some of the reasons why your home might be more vulnerable than you.

Broken Doors

Whether this is your front door, garage door, or back door, you need to keep it in good condition. Make sure that you are oiling any hinges, fixing any cracks, and locking your doors at all times. If you aren’t doing this on a regular basis, you are leaving your home open to all sorts of threats, including break-ins. Obviously, you don’t want this, so you need to make sure that you have secure doors. Whether this means you need a garage door repair, a front door repair, whatever you need, you should get it.

Broken doors can also get worse with bad weather. For example, if you have a door that is broken, you shouldn’t just leave it because a bad gust of wind can easily cause more damage. Even if you think it will be okay because it’s a minor issue, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Unlocked Windows

Another reason your home could be vulnerable is that you don’t lock the windows. Shutting them is not enough to protect your home from any and all issues. Many people don’t like to lock the window, because they are worried about finding the key and never opening them again, but it is more important that you do this. You are leaving your home less vulnerable if you lock your windows, as you are blocking one of the points of entry that robbers tend to use.

You should also not be placing anything that is valuable by the windows, especially if they are unlocked. By doing this, you are giving the person more incentive to come into your home, and this is certainly not something that you want to do.

No Security System

If you don’t have a security system, there is no telling what is going on in your home. If you have one of these in place, you will know if there is any issue at any time, even if you are not in the house. You will get an alert, and so will the police so that any intrusion or problem will be dealt with swiftly.

We hope that you have found this advice useful, and understand why your home may be more vulnerable than you believe. Follow these steps, and you will find that your home is more secure and that putting these measures in place will give you the peace of mind that you need every time you leave your house.

About Us

My good friend Ben started this site many years ago.  Ben said this about himself, “am a follower of Christ, a rabid computer geek, small business owner, and breaker of things. He is married way above his station in life and has three wonderful children who have made driving him insane their mission in life.”

Well back in 2019, Ben suddenly passed away from cancer and he asked me to continue the site. I like Ben, am a follower, a computer geek, a small business owner, and the father of 5 great children.

I miss Ben everyday but run this site in his honor. Thanks for visiting and enjoy!
