Stress Busters: What Works & What Doesn’t

Posted on November 29, 2017 by ben

Stress is an incredibly strange condition.

While you may be able to identify the signs of mental health issues in others, it’s incredibly difficult to see when you are suffering with stress on a personal level. Stress has a tendency to undermine you, make you feel like you can’t quite trust your own judgement– so even though you perceive something is definitely not right, you might not understand that stress is the cause.

There are a number of ways you can test yourself online to see if you are exhibiting any signs of stress. If one of these tests come back positive, your next goal will be to find a way to calm the issue and restore a sense of control– but this isn’t always easy to do. There are many suggestions for how people can calm their stress, but these may not be beneficial to your individual circumstance.

If you find yourself with a stress problem to deal with, then you may find it helpful to read through the below common “stress-busting” tips– and learn whether or not they may genuinely be able to help you…

Meditation

Meditation is one of the most commonly suggested options for those suffering with stress, but is it actually useful?

While meditation can be useful for stress, it is not the best option if you are new to trying to cope with stress. It is better for maintenance of good mood, as opposed to being a cure for an existing problem. If you are stressed, you may find that your mind wanders and you cannot focus enough to achieve decent meditation. If you find this is the case, it may be best to leave meditation until you are feeling more centered.

Drinking More Water

The idea of drinking more water to relieve stress and anxiety is definitely a strange one, but it’s an idea that has plenty of medical backing. The reason for this is simple; our brains need sufficient water to function properly. If we are dehydrated, then existing stress and anxiety symptoms will worsen.

If you’re not a fan of drinking water, then take steps to up your water intake in more inventive ways. Herbal teas, for example, count as part of your water intake. If you want to try making water alone more appetizing, then Big Berkey water filter can improve the taste of your water almost exponentially. Experiment with filtered water and herbal teas until you find a beverage that you can drink a large amount of comfortably, which in turn will help to control your stress issues.

Exercising

This one is pleasantly simple: yes, exercising will help with stress, and should be your first port of call when looking to improve your stress levels. Exercise releases endorphins that can improve your mood, and can also help to lower the cortisol — better known as the “stress hormone”. Exercise will improve your stress symptoms, so give it a try and you should soon begin to see things improve.

Stress is a difficult condition to diagnose, and is even more difficult to treat. Hopefully, if you keep the above realities in mind, you will be able to find a way through– and you can then look forward to a brighter tomorrow.

About Us

My good friend Ben started this site many years ago.  Ben said this about himself, “am a follower of Christ, a rabid computer geek, small business owner, and breaker of things. He is married way above his station in life and has three wonderful children who have made driving him insane their mission in life.”

Well back in 2019, Ben suddenly passed away from cancer and he asked me to continue the site. I like Ben, am a follower, a computer geek, a small business owner, and the father of 5 great children.

I miss Ben everyday but run this site in his honor. Thanks for visiting and enjoy!
